If I could snap my fingers and live somewhere other than my suburban house in Anchorage, Moonstone Farm would be at the top of my list!
I’d eat farm fresh salad for lunch, sip kombucha on tap, admire the lovely nesting sandhill cranes, watch my kids jump on the trampoline, play lawn games with friends stopping by, enjoy yoga on the deck, and snuggle down to sleep in the railcar apartment (for rent on AirBnB) with bellies full of farm fresh berry cheesecake. And, oh yes, I’d help farm too!
Sounds like a dream…but it is actually just a summer Thursday afternoon on the Moonstone Farm in Palmer- on repeat Saturday afternoons from 2-6pm starting the first full week of July.

Thanks to AFMA board member Johnathan Church and his parents, the Moonstone Farm is enjoying a fourth generation of farming since 1935 when his great-grandparents began homesteading there. The railcar- home to taproom and yoga on the deck- is full of photos of the past 90 years on the farm. And the farm stand is full of everything from eggs and produce to honey and yummy freeze-dried carrot snacks.
This week, on the way home from Hatcher Pass, my kids and I stopped by to see Johnathan and his family in action. And we were blown away- what a magical place on a summer afternoon!
