What a beautiful day at the market!
On a dreary April Saturday morning, while the Anchorage weather did ‘wintery mix,’ I took a glorious break from it all and stepped into a vast humid and blooming greenhouse for one of the last days of the Bell’s Nursery Winter Farmers Market season.
From rotating local musicians, to the Spring Pottery Market with area high school artists and professionals alike, to Senator Giessel hosting “Coffee with Cathy,” to shoppers lingering over conversations with MatSu tulip growers, to the Beignet Today food truck selling sweets, it was magical! I spent $25 and came home with kale (bought from the delightful Bell’s Nursery grandson growing veggies), a beautiful salmon filet (from a fisherwoman who shares my first name in AnchorPoint), and a sleeve of bagels (from bakers at Bean’s Cafe raising money for those in need).
I could also have bought potatoes, eggs, sourdough bread, and baklava! I couldn’t help but take photos and videos of everything green or blooming and to make note of advertised upcoming events. Did you know the next Farm Bureau Anchorage Section meeting is April 26th and the Dirt to Dinner potluck and film screening at the Anchorage Museum is April 27th? I don’t know about you, but these last vestiges of Alaska’s winter can really drag for me, and the boost of a beautiful indoor farmers market continuing through April lifts my spirits.
